General Motors Employees enjoy one the best benefit packages available in American Industry. The broad range of benefit programs enables our employees to enjoy a secure future for themselves and their families.

  • Healthcare - At GM, you'll have a wide variety of options to choose from, including the Basic Medical Plan, the Enhanced Medical Plan, and where available, a Health Maintenance Organization, or a Preferred Provider Organization Option.

  • Insurance - The General Motors Health Care Program provides comprehensive coverage for employees and their eligible dependents, while allowing flexibility in the way employees plan for health care expenses. The General Motors Life and Disability Insurance Program includes options for employee and dependent life insurance, as well as short-term and long-term disability benefits for employees.

  • Savings/Investment Options - The General Motors Savings-Stock Purchase Program (S-SPP) helps employees work towards a financially secure future and gives them an opportunity to acquire a stock interest in GM. Available options in the S-SPP include before tax and/or after tax payroll deductions, GM matching contributions, several investment options and provisions that allow employees to withdraw or borrow from their account (subject to limitations). The GM "match" to a participating employee's S-SPP account is 50% of the amount contributed up to 6% of an employee's eligible salary. The GMAC Demand Note Program is offered exclusively to GM employees and their immediate family members and provides them with an opportunity to invest in a money market-type account without administrative fees or penalties on withdrawals.

  • Retirement Program - The General Motors Retirement Program provides our retirees with a monthly lifetime benefit fully paid by GM. Additional retirement benefits can be accrued for modest employee contributions.

  • Product Discounts - GM employees and their eligible family members receive substantial discounts on the purchase or lease of new GM vehicles. Discounts and/or favorable rates are also available on GM Auto Parts, GMAC Auto Loans and Auto, Homeowners and Renters Insurance through Motors Insurance Corporation (MIC).

  • Paid Holiday/Vacation - GM employees will have 16 paid holidays in 2003. Employees receive from one to five weeks of vacation depending on their length of service.

  • Tuition Assistance - The GM Tuition Plan offers employees an opportunity for self-development as well as for improving skills. Tuition assistance is provided for undergraduate and graduate programs and professional development seminars and workshops. Dependent children of GM employees may be eligible for up to $1,250 per year to cover expenses incurred while pursuing a post- secondary degree.

  • Work/Life Program - GM provides its salaried employees and their managers with a number of policies and programs designed to help them find a reasonable balance between their personal and professional lives. These include LifeWorks, a family resources and referral program offering information about child care, elder care, education, and adoption; Dependent Care Leaves; Dual Career Couples Policy; flextime; LifeSteps health promotion program; and more.
