Allison Transmission Announces Vocational Release For Articulated Dump Trucks

August 1, 2003 - Indianapolis, Indiana - Allison Transmission announces the vocational release of its HD transmission series for use in off-highway articulated dump trucks (ADTs). Recognizing customer needs, the Allison HD Series was released to all OEMs of articulated dump trucks, effective April 2003. Currently, Allison's HD 4560 is standard in Bell Equipment's 35- and 40-ton (32- to 36-tonne) articulated dump trucks. According to Bell, "Through Allison's proprietary World Series transmission technology, which achieves six ideally spaced speeds with one less planetary gear set, the ADT gets more power to the ground, smoothly. The transmission has an output type retarder, which is most effective at high vehicle speeds, precisely when it's needed. At the same time in retarding mode, the transmission is programmed to downshift, maximizing engine rpm, creating unsurpassed down haul productivity." Allison automatic transmissions are ideally suited to cope with a range of demands made when working both on and off road with the same vehicle. Advanced electronics with adaptive technology mean that optimum performance is maintained irrespective of terrain. As a result of improved work conditions and greater efficiency, drivers are less stressed and better able to concentrate when manoeuvring off-road. In addition, a host of safety features provide cost-effective operating benefits and protect each vehicle from unnecessary abuse. Allison Transmission, a part of General Motors' Powertrain division, leads the world in the design, manufacture and sales of medium-and heavy-duty automatic transmissions for trucks, buses, off-road and military vehicles and RVs.
