ATDT V 1

NEWS Release

The evolution continues. ATDT (Allison Transmission Diagnostic Tool) Version 1.1 has been released to the field. Version 1.1 includes several new features and incorporates several modifications to improve the tools usability. Installed on the users own PC, it will allow the technician to acquire data from the transmissions control system and, through the use of embedded Troubleshooting Manuals, conduct systematic troubleshooting of transmission complaints. Specific features include:

Basic Features

ATDT uses a Windows. style graphical user interface (GUI) and includes:

  • User selected views of multiple transmission parameters

  • View Active and Historical Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

  • Graphical instrument panel view of transmission parameters

  • Strip chart function

  • User configurable Snapshot function

  • User configurable Print function

  • Code driven hotlinks to embedded WTEC II and WTEC III Troubleshooting Manuals

  • Reprogramming capability (available after satisfying ATD training certification requirement)

  • Demo Mode which allows the user to practice the program without being connected to a vehicle

  • Paper copy of the Users Manual and laminated Job Aid Card

  • Adobe Acrobat. 5.0 bundled on the CD for reading the Troubleshooting Manuals

  • Microsoft Media Player. 7.0 bundled on the CD for video display

Version 1.1 Enhancements and New Features:

  • Graphics Monitor

    • The analog meters have been reordered to facilitate easier reading

    • Any meter can be set to full screen by double clicking on the selected meter

  • Strip Chart

    • The user will now be able to select specific colors for each of the (up to 8) parameter traces chosen by using pull down menu selections

    • The strip chart is now configured to automatically establish the Y axis based on the parameters selected.

    • Range Select and Range Attained are now displayed full time on the strip chart

    • Strip chart control features are now activated by graphical buttons instead of text descriptions.

  • Custom Data Monitor

    • The user can now save a selected group of data parameters for easy retrieval

    • ATDT now ships with a stored list of data parameters groups (or Set files)which the user can select for specific troubleshooting events

  • Action Request

    • A new item, called Engineering Calculations, has been added to the Action Request Menu. This function will allow the user to enter vehicle specific data (tire revolutions per mile and axle ratio [or N/V]). Once this vehicle specific data has been installed, three new data parameters will be displayed on the Data Monitor screen. Vehicle speed, converter speed ratio and acceleration [gs] will be added to the end of the standard data parameter list.

  • Snap Shot

    • The Trouble Code screen now supports a FIRE TRIGGER function which utilizes the F6 key and allows the user to quickly start a snapshot

    • Snap shot now supports a BOOKMARK function. Once a snapshot has been started, additional points of interest within the snapshot can be annotated by pressing the F6 key (now labeled BOOKMARK). The VCR style control used to navigate within a stored snapshot contains a new button labeled B (for BOOKMARK) which will present the user with a list of all stored BOOKMARKS for navigation. The BOOKMARK function is supported by all Diagnostic Screens within ATDT

    • The VCR style control contains a new button labeled with an image of an envelope and is available to quickly e-mail a saved log file. This feature will automatically launch an e-mail template, attach the log file currently being viewed (the user can attach any log file) and populate the e-mail Subject line with the name of the attached log file. To utilize this function the user will need to be connected to an email server (please contact your local Information Services support group to configure this function)

  • Print Function

    • Version 1.1 creates a file folder on the users PC which will receive all saved reports. The user will be able save reports to and print reports from a single location.

  • Help Menu

    • The Help Menu now contains selected video based training segments to help the user with ATDT navigation skills and basic electrical circuit troubleshooting tips. During the ATDT installation process the user is given the choice of storing these video based training segments on the PCs hard drive or leaving them on the ATDT CD.

    • The Help Menu also contains an animated hydraulic schematic. This schematic may be shifted by the user to see the hydraulic flows of the transmission. Individual solenoids and valves may also be manipulated to visualize different hydraulic failure modes.

    • The Allison Transmission Application Installation Design Calculations program in now included in the Help Menu. This application includes the Multiple Joint Driveline Analysis program in addition to several cooling system analysis programs.

    • The latest version of Allison Transmission WTEC III Troubleshooting Manual TS2973EN incorporated into the Help Menu and the code driven hyperlinks.

Support Information

The ATDT is shipped with a paper Users Manual (GN 3433EN), an extensive Help Menu (within the software) as well as a laminated tri-fold Job Aid card (JA 3434EN). All of these sources will guide the user through most software installation questions as well as how the tool functions. A Technical Support help desk phone number is also provided with the ATDT

Essential Tool Status

The ATDT has been classified as an Essential tool for service outlets authorized as WT Maintenance and WT Overhaul locations. Those service outlets currently enrolled in the Essential tool program will receive an announcement letter regarding this tool. ATDT Version 1.1 is considered an essential upgrade for service outlets currently enrolled in the Essential tool program.

Reprogramming Requirements

ATDT incorporates a reprogramming function which allows modification of certain transmission control system values. Activation of this reprogramming capability requires the user to complete an Allison ATDT Service Training program to insure safe utilization of this function. The training requirement is identical to the requirement in place today to purchase the reprogramming PCMCIA card for the former diagnostic tool. Technicians who hold the appropriate training certificate today can use the same certificate as authorization to activate the reprogramming function of the ATDT. Technicians not currently certified, who wish to activate the reprogramming function of the ATDT, will be required to provide proof of completion of the ATDT Service Training Program (for course availability please contact your local Allison Transmission distributor training facility, or visit www.allisontransmission.com).
