It's not often that commercial fleet operators and OEMs get a chance to meet up and discuss their equipment, strategies and requirements. However, for some of Europe's most important managers, they did just that in Hungary, where they had the opportunity to examine and test the latest automatic transmission technology, and see for themselves Allison's latest assembly plant in Szentgotthard.
With attendees from diverse applications such as bus, distribution, emergency, waste and recycling, construction and off-road, the event was a unique occasion for the varied disciplines to share experiences from their sectors and find out more about the current trends. Fleet companies and OEMs from 26 different countries across Europe and the Middle East, including Sweden, Russia, France, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the UK all made the trip to the recently constructed Euro Ring race track near Budapest. The ride and drive event, with all-encompassing trials including acceleration, manoeuvrability, off-road and even application specific tests, like a bus route demonstrating the value of smooth shifting to passengers, was a unique occasion to trial vehicles and assess transmission technology. Additionally, there was the added attraction of a visit to Allison Transmission's latest automatic transmission assembly plant in Szentgotthard.
