Aucar-Trailer and Allison Transmission present innovative distribution transport solution in Spain.

MADRID, Spain: On April 2 a 16 ton, 300 hp Iveco Eurocargo, equipped with an Aucar-Trailer POLICAR® system and an Allison 3000 Series fully automatic transmission was presented and tested at the INTA (Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial) facilities in Madrid. In attendance were representatives from the leading logistics, distribution and transport companies from the food sector, along with journalists from the technical and specialized press.

The guests viewed presentations held by Aucar-Trailer and Allison Transmission representatives, to learn about the benefit of each product. Afterward, they had the opportunity to experience the advantages of this new vehicle concept first-hand by driving it at the INTA test track.

After two hours of test driving, the visitors’ impressions and assessments were very positive; most highlighted the vehicle versatility and its excellent response to a variety of situations. During the month of April, a road show will be conducted with demonstrations in Valencia, Zaragoza and Barcelona.

POLICAR® bodywork, a cost effective “two in one”

Aucar-Trailer recently launched the new design of its renowned POLICAR® bodywork, the innovative “two in one” solution converts a trailer truck into a rigid box truck through simple operation of a remote control. The dual purpose trailer consists of two movable boxes, capable of operating at different temperatures on a single trip, which can be coupled to a tractor unit. Once the vehicle reaches a parking area, it can be converted into a rigid truck to allow easy delivery of the two boxes to different distribution areas. Designed specifically for the distribution sector, this concept offers superior flexibility in the delivery of goods, as well as lowering CO2 emissions and providing savings in fuel, labour and maintenance costs.

The POLICAR® trailer can be mounted on all common vehicle body configurations including rigid box, curtain sides, refrigerated, tankers, containers and more. As it can be manufactured with isothermal boxes and multi-temperature cooling units, the trailer is able to transport fresh, dry and refrigerated foods in one journey, making it highly regarded in the distribution sector.

Allison Transmission, great value for the distribution sector

Much like other transport sectors, the distribution sector is seeing a growing demand for fully automatic transmissions, which is not surprising when considering the numerous benefits this transmission technology deliver. These benefits include: increased productivity and enhanced performance as well as vehicle control, safety and fuel efficiency.

As such, the POLICAR® and Allison Transmission make a perfect combination for fleets looking to improve efficiency and manage overall operating costs. Allison fully automatic transmissions feature Continuous Power Technology™, whereby the transmission uses a torque converter for improved launch while delivering uninterrupted gear shifts to improve vehicle performance and average speed. This has been shown to allow increase overall vehicle and driver efficiency resulting in a higher number of deliveries in a specified timeframe, achieving an optimal balance between productivity and economy. Continuous Power TechnologyTM also makes an Allison fully automatic transmission the ideal choice for vehicles powered with alternative fuels, such as CNG and LNG.

On urban routes and in dense traffic, Allison automatics allow for easy driver operation, ensuring smooth vehicle control. They help the driver precisely manoeuver when navigating corners, approaching loading ramps or hitching trailers. Having a torque converter in place of dry clutch, eliminates costly clutch repairs, while an Allison integral retarder enhances overall vehicle braking also reducing brake wear and maintenance.

Forthcoming ROAD SHOW events:

 4/04/2013: Valencia at Autosur, Allison Official Service Center

 16/04/2013: Zaragoza at the Lecitrailer facilities

 19/04/2013: Barcelona. Circuit de Catalunya (Montmeló)
