Allison Transmission Showcases Allison eGen Power™ Electric Axles and Allison eGen Flex™ Electric Hybrid System at COMTRANS 2021

Allison Transmission showcases its electrified solutions for commercial vehicles, eGen Power™ electric axles and eGen Flex™ electric hybrid system, for the first time in Russia at the 16th COMTRANS International Commercial Vehicles Show.

MOSCOW, Russia, September 2021 – Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of conventional, electric hybrid and fully electric vehicle propulsion solutions,, showcased its electrified solutions for commercial vehicles, Allison eGen Power™ electric axles and the eGen Flex™ hybrid drive system at the 16th COMTRANS International Commercial Vehicles Show.

Allison eGen Power™ Electric Axles
Allison’s eGen Power electric axles feature one or two high-speed electric motors and integrate a two-speed transmission so no additional drive shafts and auxiliary components are needed. The axles can be made to work in tandem. Fully integrated design of Allison’s eGen Power electric axles offers improved efficiency and a best-in-class power rating thanks to its integrated cooling system.

Allison first launched its eGen Power 100D in 2020 and has since spent time stringently validating and where necessary refining the e-Axle with most of the major OEMs in North America. This e-Axle features two electric motors, each capable of generating greater than 200 kilowatts of continuous power, with peak combined power of 648 kilowatts.

Allison has expanded its dual motor offerings to include the eGen Power 130D, a variant of the 100D, specifically designed for the European and Asia Pacific markets, where many commercial vehicles require a heavier 13 tonne gross axle weight rating.

In further expanding the eGen Power product portfolio, Allison also announces the first single motor variant in the eGen Power series of e-Axles, the eGen Power 100S. The 100S offers exceptional performance characteristics in both 4x2 and 6x4 configurations. The 100S uses a single motor to generate 212 kilowatts of continuous power, with a peak power of 324 kilowatts, and 23,500 newton meters of torque at the wheels. The 100S offers a 10.4 tonne gross axle weight rating and features a two-speed parallel axis gear architecture, efficiently meeting application launch and highway cruise demands, while maximizing energy recovery through 100% regenerative braking capability.

The eGen Power electric axles make up an electric drive system that can be installed on standard frames of almost any commercial vehicle. Allison eGen Power e-Axles are an integrated turn-key solution that makes the installation process highly efficient.

Allison eGen Flex™ Electric Hybrid System
The eGen Flex electric hybrid system comprises an innovative drive unit, an inverter and a rechargeable battery system. The drive unit is equipped with a disconnect clutch that enables engine-off capability. The inverter has a package improvement that reduces its footprint and weight. An aqueous solution of ethylene glycol is now used as the coolant, which eliminates oil lines, decreasing installation complexity, reducing maintenance expense and increasing uptime. The energy storage system incorporates the latest Lithium Titanite (LTO) technology, which increases energy density, allows for faster charging and enables pure electric (engine off) extended range capability. The eGen Flex makes it possible to utilize the full electric operation capability without additional capital infrastructure investment.

The eGen Flex electric hybrid system enables the bus to be solely battery-powered with the engine off, while maintaining the power supply of auxiliary equipment, which makes it possible to transport in zero-emission areas. The eGen Flex system will enable public transport fleets to evaluate battery-powered operation and determine the necessary cruising range, while keeping an option to use the diesel engine in cases of changes in the length of routes, unforeseen congestion or if batteries cannot be charged.

“The electric axle and electric hybrid system showcased at COMTRANS sparked genuine interest among visitors. This inspires optimism about their future in the Russian market,” said Vadim Kamenskov, Head of Allison Transmission Office in Russia.
