Short Route Bus Equipped with Allison Automatics Starts Run in Seoul

Sinho Transport, a bus fleet in Seoul, recently purchased a total of four Hyundai County vehicles that are equipped with Allison’s fully automatic transmissions due to fuel economy, ease of operation, reliability, power, durability, and productivity

SEOUL, South Korea, June 17, 2022 – Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of conventional and electrified vehicle propulsion solutions and the largest global manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty fully automatic transmissions for commercial and defense vehicles, announced that four Hyundai County buses equipped with Allison’s fully automatic transmission have been deployed for the short route in Seoul for the first time.

Sinho Transport, located in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, recently purchased a total of four Hyundai County vehicles that are equipped with Allison Automatics. The fleet is operating short route buses on the route from Sillim-dong Court Complex to Sindaebang station in Seoul. Donghyun Lee, a managing director of Sinho Transport, emphasized that the company selected Allison’s fully automatic transmission due to its great advantages in various aspects including fuel economy, ease of operation, reliability, power, durability, and productivity.

Allison currently supplies the Allison 1000 Series™ to Hyundai County (T1000 xFE™) and has a high market share in the light commercial bus market due to the excellent performance and economics of its fully automatic transmissions.

Generally, the short route bus runs on hills and narrow roads and frequently operates stop-and-go driving. Automatic vehicles, however, do not require gear shifting or clutch operation, leading to a low fatigue level for a driver, and a lower risk of accidents because the driver only needs to focus on the front while driving. It also offers an excellent efficiency through optimal gear changes based on the accumulated data.

"We purchased Hyundai County equipped with Alison’s fully automatic transmission to reduce drivers’ fatigue level," said Donghyun Lee, a managing director of Sinho Transport. "In fact, our drivers had a positive response after introducing them to auto-vehicles, and they experienced lower fatigue level, which became possible for us to hire less experienced drivers or female drivers."

"When using manual transmissions, it was required to repair the transmissions once a year, but a fully automatic transmission is advantageous in terms of maintenance because only regular fluid replacement is necessary", said Lee. "We will continue to purchase Allison’s fully automatic transmissions as long as running internal combustion engine models.”

Unlike manual transmissions that require regular replacement of parts such as clutch pads and clutch cover, Allison’s fully automatic transmission has been validated for its advantages in 5,000 commutes including kindergarten buses and academy-use shuttle buses since its launch in 2013. Hence, in terms of long-term maintenance costs, it is possible to reduce costs relative to manual transmissions.

"The allocation of Allison’s fully automatic transmission model on a domestic short route bus route is a very meaningful result," said Kyoungmee Lee, regional director of Allison Transmission Korea. "We expect Allison Automatics to be applied to more short route bus routes in the future."
