Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality added 20 Allison-equipped buses to their fleet late last year
ESKİŞEHİR, Turkey – As part of an ongoing plan to ensure their bus fleet offers the most comfortable ride, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality decided to equip their 20 new ISUZU Citibus vehicles with fully automatic Allison transmissions.
“We are continuing our efforts to provide top-quality public transportation services in Eskişehir which is known as the European city of Turkey,” said Şenol Ertan, chief of transportation for Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality. “Besides making investments in rail systems and tram services, we are constantly improving our wheeled vehicle fleet as well. When it comes to our fleet of 78 buses, our top choice has always been fully automatic transmissions that provide maximum comfort and safety for both drivers and passengers.”
Beginning service late last year, Eskişehir’s new Isuzu Citibus Euro 5 model, 9-meter buses are equipped with Allison 2100 transmissions. The transmission is designed for engines that deliver power up to 172 kW (230 HP) and features Allison 5th Generation Electronic Controls and FuelSense® Plus fuel economy package. The advanced controls help reduce fuel consumption by automatically achieving an optimal shift schedule based on vehicle load and duty cycle.
FuelSense® Plus includes EcoCal gear shift technology which keeps the engine speed at the most efficient level, Dynamic Shift Sensing which automatically selects between EcoCal and higher speed shift schedules based on the vehicle’s weight and the grade on which it’s operating, and Neutral at Stop which eliminates the load on the engine when the vehicle is stopped, reducing non-productive fuel consumption and emissions.
“Fully automatic transmissions provide many advantages for drivers, passengers and the municipality,” said Ertan. “By not having to worry about gearshifts, the driver focuses on driving and the result is a smooth and safe ride. Additionally, our passengers enjoy a quieter, more comfortable travel experience. And, as the owner, we enjoy reliability and ease of maintenance.”
Convinced of the many advantages offered by fully automatic transmissions, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality wants to modernize its entire fleet over the coming years.
“More than half of our fleet now consists of the fully automatic transmission buses and we plan to renew our manual buses with fully automatic transmission comfort as soon as possible,” said Ertan.
