Allison Transmission’s South American Distributor Serves as Important Pillar for Suppliers in Vaca Muerta

MTU DD ALLISON ARG SA, an Allison Authorized distributor has served this market for over 30 years.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, 2021 - Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of conventional and electrified vehicle propulsion solutions and the largest global manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty fully automatic transmissions for commercial and defense vehicles, and Allison Authorized distributor MTU DD ALLISON ARG SA help maintain and service Allison transmissions in Vaca Muerta.

Vaca Muerta is a rocky formation that extends for 30,000 square kilometers and gives rise to unconventional oil and gas reserves in the province of Neuquén (Argentina), which is located in the northern part of Patagonia and borders to the west with the Cordillera de Los Andes. It represents the second largest unconventional gas reservoir in the world and the fourth largest for oil.

Well service companies operating machinery within Vaca Muerta and providing operational services of hydraulic fracturing to producers are Halliburton, Weatherford, Schlumberger and Call Frac, among others. There are more than 300 pieces of fracturing equipment operating in Argentina.

In 2020, MTU DD ALLISON ARG SA, official Allison Transmission distributor for more than 30 years, opened a branch located in Neuquen’s Industrial Park, where all the well service companies are located.

Bryan MacKenzie, General Manager of MTU DD ALLISON ARG SA, has been with the company for 22 years as a certified Allison trainer and maintains a strong relationship with Allison Transmission.

“We have the workshops in Bahía Blanca to carry out Allison transmissions’ overhaul and have almost 8000m2 of structure,” said MacKenzie. “We also have an exclusive Service Manager for Allison and 12 qualified technicians to attend to Allison's service including field service. We use our own transportation, since we remove the transmissions in Neuquén or Añelo that need to be repaired, transfer them to our workshops and after being repaired and tested in the dynamometer, we take them back."

Allison Transmission’s Oil Field Series™ transmissions are built to serve the oil and gas industry, and together with MTU DD ALLISON ARG SA, the companies work to ensure that the Argentine market is satisfied.

“We have a constantly rotating stock of approximately USD$1 million in parts for Off-Highway alone. This means that we have the ability to repair them faster, since the profit loss of unused equipment has a high cost and this is what our customers mostly demand from us,” said MacKenzie.

In order to satisfy and support Vaca Muerta’s customers, MTU DD ALLISON ARG SA’s regional office in Buenos Aires has continued communication with Allison Transmission’s regional customer support team.

Allison Transmission has been manufacturing automatic transmissions for the energy sector for decades. Many well servicing companies in the oil and gas industry are using Allison’s fully automatic transmissions for drilling, crushing, lifting and pumping tasks.
