Hareket Transports the Most Challenging Loads with Volvo FH16 Tractor Equipped with Allison Transmission

Hareket Nakliyat successfully overcomes the most challenging heavy haul jobs thanks to Volvo FH16 Tractors equipped with Allison fully automatic transmissions, which the company has been using for 8 years.

ISTANBUL, Turkey, October 2021 – Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of conventional and electrified vehicle propulsion solutions and the largest global manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty fully automatic transmissions for commercial and defense vehicles, is the transmission of choice for Hareket, which has been offering its customers engineering solutions and heavy lifting and hauling services for more than 60 years. Hareket carries the most challenging loads with Volvo FH16 tractors equipped with Allison transmissions. Hareket Nakliyat has been using its nine Volvo FH16, 600hp 6x4 tractors equipped with Allison 4700 fully automatic transmissions, received between 2013 and 2015, for heavy haul projects with heavy tonnage without any problem.

Gürsu said that in their projects they transport loads from 120 tons up to 480 tons with the Volvo FH 16 tractors, which have engines that produces 600hp, 2800Nm torque and are equipped with Allison 4700 fully automatic transmissions.

“In such heavy tonnages, it is very important to have a smooth transportation operation. With Allison transmissions, we have not experienced any problem in our operations for the last 8 years. Manual and automated manual transmissions are more likely to have clutch lining breakdowns carrying heavy loads, but with the Allison torque converter these issues are removed. Also, the engine torque at the start is increased and we eliminate the need for transmission system repair and change. All those factors ensure time and cost savings. The risk of interruption during the operations due to a possible transmission problem is eliminated,” said Gürsu.

The advantages in fully automatic transmissions such as efficient slowing down without excessively forcing the brake system and hill start assist functions make the heavy load and project transportation much safer. Hareket Nakliyat has successfully carried out many challenging projects with Volvo FH16 tractors equipped with Allison fully automatic transmissions.

“We transported a 450-ton generator (13.6m long x 4.2m wide and 4.2m high) and a 481-ton gas turbine (13.6m long x 6m wide and 5.4m high) from Martaş Port located at Tekirdağ Marmara Ereğlisi to Kırklareli Hamitabat Natural Gas Combined Cycle Power Plant. There are road slopes up to 10 percent in this route of 175 km. We completed this challenging project with such heavy loads without any problems thanks to the advantages offered by Allison transmissions,” said Gürsu.

Gürsu stated that they have transported loads with 172 tons from Bautino Port, Kazakhstan to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and this was a transportation operation with 2500 km distance in challenging and hot desert conditions.

“Despite all those challenging conditions, heavy loads and long distances, our operations were more comfortable for our drivers, more secure for the load and we completed all the operation without any transmission failure thanks to the Allison 4700 transmission. When required the gear shifting is carried out automatically, slowing down and stopping the vehicles are also very secure. Our drivers can focus on the driving and the security of the load as they no longer have to shift gears,” said Gürsu.

Gürsu highlighted that in their projects, the vehicles transport very heavy tonnage loads in short and medium distances, which causes both the engine and the transmission equipment to be exposed to very heavy loads. Allison fully automatic transmissions are designed to ensure the most ideal operating conditions for the engine that also increases the lifetime of the engine and drive train.
