Truck equipped with an Allison transmission at a mining site.

For decades, Allison Transmission has provided durable, reliable and high-performing transmissions for mining vehicles all across the world. Our transmissions are designed and engineered to perform in the most demanding situations and operate easily in the toughest terrain – from slopes and hills to mud and gravel.

Durability and reliability are crucial in mining and off-road businesses. Allison transmissions (“Allison Automatics”) excel in these difficult conditions. Designed and built for high performance and low maintenance, Allison fully automatic transmissions have been shown to achieve faster work cycles and extended service intervals.

See how the numerous features of Allison Automatics help you get the most benefit and value from your transmission. You’ll understand why Allison has been trusted by the mining industry to move minerals, stone, earth and other materials while performing in the toughest conditions.

Experience the Benefits

Allison’s commitment to understanding and satisfying our customers’ needs and goals drives us to continuously analyze, refine and improve our transmissions. We aim to push performance in ways that help you get work done smarter and more effectively.

With Allison Automatics, we offer features that maximize productivity, increase mining site safety and deliver renowned durability.

Greater productivity

Whether you’re driving on a smooth surface, on a gravel road, up or down hills or in the worst terrain imaginable, an Allison Automatic is your solution.

Our transmissions are designed to accelerate faster, which means you get more work done. A better performing vehicle equals a higher performing driver – and that means an improved bottom line.

Improved maneuverability

Allison’s Continuous Power Technology™ allows our fully automatic transmissions to simply and smoothly deliver uninterrupted engine power to the wheels. This means superior acceleration, a smooth drive, effortless shifting, precise traction control and improved maneuverability – even in harsh or rugged conditions. It also helps the driver control the vehicle at low speeds. Compare this performance to a manual or automated manual transmission (AMT) – which can have a much slower launch and difficulty maintaining momentum when shifting.  With an Allison Automatic, the ease of operating your vehicle and the increased safety will be evident – inching will be simple, and the rollback experienced with a manual clutch will be a distant memory.

Lower costs, easier maintenance

Allison makes transmission care easy and less costly. And since Allison Automatics don’t have a starting clutch, you won’t have routine clutch damage or need replacements — a downtime concern with manual transmissions and AMTs.

Routine oil and filter changes are the only regular maintenance required with an Allison Automatic.

With Allison’s Prognostics feature, available on most Allison transmissions, you can quickly monitor oil life, filter life and transmission health to take the guesswork and hassle out of scheduling routine vehicle maintenance. This saves time and money while providing maximum protection for the transmission.

And if ever needed, our global network of authorized service locations will provide the Allison authorized service you expect.

Better fuel efficiency

With an Allison Automatic, you can achieve an optimum level of fuel economy and performance. Allison Automatics are designed to carry more tonnage per gallon/liter of fuel and give you a choice of operating modes to best suit your driving conditions.

Our transmissions select the optimum shift points based on load and terrain to automatically enhance fuel savings or add more power when needed. The transmission shifts at lower engine speeds when the truck is unloaded to provide fuel savings and automatically adjusts to higher speed shifts when more power is required. Downshifts are also managed to provide the engine or transmission retarder with capacity to maintain downhill speed without significant use of the service brake.

Work Smarter

Allison Automatics have both intelligence and strength. We offer a number of Smart Controls – electronic control features that can help increase productivity, lower fuel consumption, reduce maintenance costs and improve safety. Features include:

  • Adapting to conserve fuel by reducing load on the engine when a vehicle is stopped
  • Automatically selecting neutral when the parking brake is applied
  • Avoiding unwanted shifts out of neutral when the PTO is enabled
  • Choosing the optimum shift points based on load and terrain
  • Utilizing load-sensing system to select optimal starting range in some models

Customer ProfileS

We’ve told you why we think Allison Automatics are premium – now you can hear it straight from the customer.

Read this customer profile for more information on how Allison Automatics are playing key roles in the success of companies everywhere.

The Palazzago quarry in Bergamo has been active since 1947 and supplies raw material to one of the largest concrete factories in Italy, Calusco d’Adda. Perlini 655 and 705 dump trucks, exclusively equipped with Allison transmissions, transport loads of about 55 tons over a complete duty cycle of 1 km within the quarry. The continuous transport of such heavy weight puts the vehicle and its driveline under constant stress.
"In the quarry, the vehicle has to be reliable and productive. The Perlini dumpers are used not only to feed the crushing plant, but also for every other task inside the quarry, including cultivating the land. Within our production cycles, we just cannot afford unexpected downtime. Automatic transmissions require less maintenance, granting a longer service life than manual and semi-automatic transmissions. With Allison, we are sure that in our quarry there will be no downtime."
Angelo Magni, Quarry Manager for Italcementi (Palazzago, Italy)
