Brazilian Marines Receive Joint Light Tactical Vehicles Equipped with Allison Fully Automatic Transmissions

The Brazilian Navy recently received its second delivery of Allison-equipped Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) with an additional shipment soon to follow.

SAO PAULO, March 2024 – Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of conventional and electrified vehicle propulsion solutions for wheeled and tracked tactical defense vehicles, is proud to announce the arrival of the Brazilian Navy’s second batch of four Allison-equipped Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs). The JLTVs were produced by Oshkosh Defense and fitted with the Allison Specialty Series™ (SP) transmissions. The JLTV is used by the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force, as well as allied forces worldwide.

The armored vehicle is designed to operate in extreme environmental conditions such as sandy soil while providing speed, power and extreme mobility. The Allison 2500 SP fully automatic transmission has equipped the JLTV since its production began in 2015. Based on the proven performance of the more than 19,000 transmissions, the U.S. Army continued to specify the Allison 2500 SP transmission for the upcoming next-generation JLTV.

The first JLTVs arrived in Brazil in the first quarter of 2023. The arrival of these JLTVs marks a significant milestone in the PROADSUMUS, the Brazilian Navy's strategic program that aims to enhance operational readiness. These vehicles provide the speed, power and extreme mobility required for missions both domestically and internationally. The JLTVs contribute to naval warfare, peacekeeping, law and order operations, humanitarian assistance and civil defense support.

The second shipment arrived late last year, and the remaining four vehicles are expected to arrive soon. After landing in the Port of Rio de Janeiro, the JLTVs were delivered to the Navy's Intelligence Center for operational testing. All vehicles will be fielded by the Marine Corps Armored Battalion, organization subordinate Fleet Marine Force in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro.

The U.S. Department of Defense plans to acquire more than 55,000 Allison-equipped JLTVs over the next two decades. The JLTV's superior mobility, unmatched reliability and proven performance have expanded its international reach with orders from multiple countries including Belgium, Montenegro, Slovenia, Lithuania, Brazil, Romania and North Macedonia.
