Refrigerator Truck Owner Drives Hyundai Mighty Equipped With Allison Automatics for 190,000 Kilometers

A refrigerator truck driver drives Hyundai Mighty equipped with its fully automatic transmission for more than 190,000 kilometers since purchasing the truck in July 2020.

SEOUL, October 18, 2022 – Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of conventional and electrified vehicle propulsion solutions and the largest global manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty fully automatic transmissions for commercial and defense vehicles, announced today that a refrigerator truck driver has driven a Hyundai Mighty equipped with an Allison fully automatic transmission for more than 190,000 km since he purchased the truck in July 2020.

Kyung-ho Kim, who drives a refrigerator truck in the Seoul metropolitan area, chose the Hyundai Mighty equipped with an Allison fully automatic transmission for convenience and efficiency. In fact, Kim said that the burden on driving has been greatly reduced thanks to the Allison fully automatic transmission. There are many repeated downtown rides transporting fruits, vegetables and frozen food in the Seoul metropolitan area, but thanks to the Mighty equipped with an Allison fully automatic transmission, his work efficiency has increased and he reports significantly reduced fatigue.

"I usually drive in the Seoul metropolitan area for work. When I changed to the Hyundai Mighty equipped with an Allison fully automatic transmission, it was easier to drive and increased productivity," said Kyung-ho Kim. "I was very tired when I drove a Hyundai Mighty equipped with a manual transmission due to gear shifts and clutch operation, but now it's much easier for me to work."

Kim’s Hyundai Mighty is equipped with Allison's 1000 xFETM transmission, which does not require any gear shifts or clutch operation. Also, Allison fully automatic transmissions have the advantage of excellent economic feasibility compared to manual transmissions. Unlike manual transmissions which require additional maintenance costs for replacing clutch wear, Allison Automatics do not use a clutch, which result in no maintenance costs being incurred other than replacing fluids and filters.

"The biggest advantage of Allison Automatics is excellent durability," said Kim. "Since purchasing in July 2020, it has never caused any problems or required repairs while driving a long distance of 192,000 km. If it were a manual transmission, it would have cost a lot of money and time to replace parts.”

Allison fully automatic transmissions provide optimal shift strategies that consider various driving conditions such as the number of persons on board, road conditions and cargo weight to maintain an appropriate balance between performance and fuel economy. Therefore, it is highly fuel-efficient and has no output interference, so it can perform its best regardless of the engine power. Allison fully automatic transmissions also do not require separate clutch and gear operations, so drivers can solely focus on driving.

"I can confidently recommend the Hyundai Mighty equipped with a fully automatic transmission based on my extensive experience. It is convenient, safe and durable, so I recommend it to my colleagues in the same industry," said Kim. "Five of them actually have bought a Mighty equipped with a fully automatic transmission after hearing about my experience using it."

"In the past, there were only manual transmission options for commercial vehicles, so there were not many choices. However, now we can choose vehicles equipped with Allison fully automatic transmissions," said Kim. "I would like to recommend that commercial vehicle drivers and long-distance drivers who drive a lot in the city buy models equipped with Allison fully automatic transmissions."
